Why do people die from the swine flu?

I understand that some people can die from the regular flu if they get a high fever or get dehydrated. Or Parvo (like the flu) in dogs only kills them because the cells split causing bloody diarrhea.

So what is it about the swine flu that kills you, and can you get it from eating pork?
(I have been reading about the swine flu online and cant find the answers to my questions.)

The World Health Organization (WHO) says properly handled and prepared pork products are safe to eat. The swine flu virus dies when cooked at temperatures of 70C or higher.

The majority of people don’t die from the flu itself, it’s other problems caused by the flu, for example pneumonia or other secondary infections but I don’t know any more information than this.
